I've stuck this here because although its a question about weight gain, it is connected to the meds i'm on for BP.

I know that many of us have put on weight whilst on quetiapine, me included. Although i put weight on all over, effectively doubling my weight. My biggest problem by far though, is the amount of weight i've put on around my stomach. I look like i'm pregnant, in fact, i've even had people ask if i'm pregnant/when the baby is due. What i want to know is whether anyone else has put on weight in the same way. I'm struggling to lose weight even after having bariatric surgery, and the weight i have lost hasn't shrunk my stomach that much. I'd also be grateful if anyone has any ideas about why the weight is predominantly round my stomach. We're not talking spare tyre, we're talking about looking like i'm 9 months pregnant all the time.

Here's hoping :cuddles:

Hey CM,

When people brag to me about their six pack stomachs, I usually show them my six keg stomach. Seroquel is responsible for weight gain, but other factors may explain where the weight goes when it comes on. In my case, it's around the stomach, but men usually gain their weight around the stomach. I am not really sure what happens with women.

I'm on Seroquel and I've started to notice I'm constantly hungry! I had a gastric band fitted about 3 years ago and lost 5 stone, I'd pilled the weight on due to being on many different antidepresants this was before my diagnosis of BP! Anyway I'm beggining to get worried about putting weight on again too! I think there's definatly a link!

I've gained weight on meds - lithium, seroquel and now depakote, and it's mostly been round my stomach area. Panicking a bit as going on a holiday in Greece with my parents in a couple of months, so need to wear a swimsuit - help!!!

I think there's an added problem in that i have a very unhealthy relationship with food to start with. I don't know what feeling 'hungry' feels like, i can't seem to recognise those normal triggers relating to when to eat and when not to. My problem at the moment is that by bum and legs seem to have gone down to a size 16, but my stomach is hanging (quite literally) on in there at at least a size 22! So, i'm wearing my jeans under my belly, amusingly, i have to wear a belt because i've no hips there to hold the jeans up. The alternative to underbelly dressing is being a kind of Simon Cowel with braces O_O

oh yes,i know all about this, since taking quetiapine,i am now a size 22,i was a 14 before.I look very pregnant and often i see people look at me as if ,"she's put the weight on" Yes,i've been asked if i'm with child!!I have problems with my relationship to food.Sad? i'll have choccy.Lonely? i'll have choccy ....the list is endless.I comfort eat to stifle feelings i think, but having increased appetite as a result of meds does not help. I hate it. In some ways i accept myself as bigger, but when i look in a mirror,i just see this fat person. It's crappy

My GP said when I feel hungry to drink two glasses of water before I decide if I want something to eat! Says she! LOL :D

I like the two glasses of water idea thats just the sort of suggestion i cannot seem to adhere to, why is it no matter what meds they chose be it quetiapine, seroquel, olanzapine or whatever they all pile the weight on, is there any scientific reason for this, before meds i felt i could eat all i wanted and could control my weight, now i cannot, infact straight after dinner i find myself searching the cupboards.
That's it i see p/doc on Thursday I am going to ask him about changing meds to control hunger.
Will let you all know when i find the magic cure all.
